Glenwood Springs Branch Library
Glenwood Springs became a branch of Garfield County Libraries in 1969. The library is a hub for the community as well as a popular stop for tourists, who come to the library seeking information and Internet access via the ten public computers or wi-fi. The library features a pre-school story time and a large summer reading program. Adult programming is also offered, including the annual Winter Lecture Series, sponsored by the Friends of the Library and the Frontier Historical Society.
An active, supportive group, the Friends of the Glenwood Springs Library hold a successful one-week used book sale in the spring and the fall. The Branch also is home to Literacy Outreach, a non-profit organization that matches volunteer tutors with learners who wish to develop reading or English skills. In 2006, the library welcomed 73, 672 visitors and checked out over 90,000 items.
The branch recently increased hours to include Sundays and many library lovers have expressed their gratitude for the increased access.
