Internet, the “Net,” the “Web:” it's a worldwide network of information and entertainment accessible through computer and modem.  Even if your children are more comfortable using computers than you are, your involvement can help them be “street smart” on the Information Highway and ensure that their experience is a positive one.

• Explore the Internet with your child.
• If you do not know how to use it, have your child teach you or ask a librarian for help.
• Spend time together exploring online sites.
• Know that there is no control over who and what is on the Internet.
• Be aware that many sites on the Internet are funded through advertising.
• Sometimes a recommended and appropriate site will link directly or indirectly to non-appropriate sites.
• Be aware that you might find inappropriate material, people with bad manners, computer viruses, harassment, advertising scams, adult material, and sites you may not wish your child to visit.
• Teach your child how to be safe on the Internet.

Below we have provided two animated audio books from Tumblebooks. To access these animated tutorial click on the pictures below and then fill in the title in the box titled "TumbleSearch" and click on "Go".  The titles are:  Surfing Safely.com and Little Red in Cyber Space. Both explore Internet Safety and are suitable for younger to middle school aged children.  We have also supplied links to some additional websites that provide tools and information for both parents and children.
