Astronomy for Everyone: Size & Scale of the Universe

 Garfield County Libraries presents an exciting program about the universe, stars, and other celestial wonders. This hands-on program is hosted by astrophysicist, Kevin Manning, who is a former NASA consultant. Following an indoor presentation, we will all go outdoors to view celestial objects in the night sky, such as the rings of Saturn, craters on the Moon, and more.

Living Wills Clinic

 Does the whole idea of "estate planning" seem a little off-putting to you? Don't let the legal terminology fool you. Estate planning doesn't have to be difficult, expensive, or depressing. Come to a Living Wills Clinic at the Gordon Cooper Branch Library on Thursday, February 25 at 6:30 p.m. to learn about the basics of estate planning. Estate planning is something you do for your family. Get it done, and you'll feel better knowing that you've taken care of them. This free clinic is hosted by Alpine Legal Services.

Give Blood

 The St. Mary's Bloodmobile will be at the Gordon Cooper Branch Library at 10:00 am on Friday, April 26th for a special blood drive. One donation can help as many as four people, and the St. Mary's Regional Blood Center supplies blood to all hospitals on the Western Slope. It's safe, fast, and the easiest way to save a life.

People 18 years old and up can participate.
16 and 17 year olds will need parental permission (available on the bloodmobile).

Register in March to reserve a time slot or drop in.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

Dr. Seuss's birthday is March 2 so the Gordon Cooper Library is having a birthday party! There will be a Seuss-storytime with a special guest reader, music, arts and crafts, party games, and, of course, a birthday cake! Program takes place at the Gordon Cooper Branch Library from 1:00-3:00 pm.

Musical Storytime with Sue

Special weekly storytime full of songs, stories, and more! For all ages. Led by our Youth Services Librarian and award winning children's musician, Sue Schnitzer.
Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Musical Storytime takes place at the Gordon Cooper Branch Library on Mondays at 4:00 p.m.

Big Read Family Storytime

 The Gordon Cooper Branch Library presents a Big Read Family Storytime on Monday, February 11th at 4:00 p.m. with songs and stories from the Dust Bowl era. Featuring songs from the Woody Guthrie “Grow Big" collection and books from the 1930's. Children will even get to make and play tambourines and washboards. This program will be led by Sue Schnitzer, the Gordon Cooper Branch Youth Services Librarian, and an award winning children’s musician.

Movie Day - Dr. Seuss

 Come to the Gordon Cooper Branch Library on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. for popcorn and a movie! In March, Movie Day will feature Dr. Seuss!

 The Gordon Cooper Branch Library presents a bilingual Big Read storytime on Tuesday, February 12th at 10:30 a.m. with age-appropriate songs and stories from the Dust Bowl era. Come hear songs from the Woody Guthrie “Grow Big collection.” Children will even get to make and play tambourines. This program will be led by Alejandra Rico, the Gordon Cooper Branch Assistant Youth Services Librarian, and Sue Schnitzer, the Gordon Cooper Branch Youth Services Librarian, and an award winning children’s musician.

Movie Day - Cartoons from the 30's

 Come to the Gordon Cooper Branch Library on the fourth Tuesday of each month for popcorn and a movie! In February, Movie Day will be related to The Big Read and feature cartoons from the 1930's, including Mickey Mouse!

Music and Game Day

 Want to write a song? Play a Game? Jam and Dance? Our resident musician/ songwriter/Youth Services Librarian will lead songwriting activities and then hand out the rhythm instruments so you can jam and dance along. We've also got Card games, Dominoes, Checkers, Chess, Uno, and more. Twister anyone? Music and Game day is the third Tuesday of the month at 4:00 p.m. at the Gordon Cooper Branch Library.
