Staff Review:
I first discovered Florence + the Machine in 2010 when I bought The Twilight Saga: Eclipse soundtrack; which featured the song “Heavy in Your Arms.” Whimsical and magical, this breath of fresh air is lead by singer Florence Welsh. Her debut album Lungs is a musical feast for the ears by weaving harps, strings, fireworks, bits of metal, and a vast array of sound trinkets. On her website, www.florenceandthemachine.net, Florence is described as a walking contradiction when writing lyrics; floating in between her conscience and subconscious mind.
Florence + the Machine provides a break from reality in every note played. I can hear her letting go of her conscience mind; through her captivating, unforgettable voice and haunting melodies.
Please check out her albums: Lungs and Ceremonials, available at Garfield County Libraries. Spectrum, her third album, will drop July 8th, 2012.
