Staff Review:

In her brand-new and first Young Adult novel, author Tricia Rayburn takes one of the most well-known mythological beings and explores the effect these alluring creatures would have on a modern day community. Vanessa and her sister Justine are on vacation in Winter Harbor, Maine, a place they have visited often, when suddenly Justine dies in a tragic accident. Struggling with the loss of her sister, Vanessa teams up with Simon to investigate Justine’s final moments and if her accident could be related to Simon’s recently missing brother. When men from the town start to wash ashore, the two begin an investigation to see if the three events could all be linked and stumble across a secret someone is willing to kill to keep.

Blending fantasy, love story, and mystery, Rayburn spins a tale fans of the otherworldly will appreciate and provides ample relief for those who enjoy the imaginary but are tired of the vampire trend. Siren is an entertaining and light read, perfect for those getting back into the habit or those who may not have a lot of free time between homework and sports to really sit down with an intense book. There is some mature content, so I would recommend Siren for youth ages 15+, but this is definitely a book one could read more than once. In fact, I plan on purchasing a copy for my personal collection!
