Genealogy Project Meeting

Anyone interested in genealogy or local history is invited to come to the first Genealogy Project Meeting on Tuesday, March 4th at 2:00pm sponsored by the Carbondale Branch Library. For the past six months, Genealogy Project Volunteer, Diane Hitchcock-Owens, has been using her 40 years of experience to research local histories and begin gathering family histories. Now she is looking to expand the project and needs volunteers to research individual/local genealogies, gather cemetary records, mine old newspapers for information and more. The focus of the Genealogy Project at the Carbondale Library is to develop a collection of family histories who settled in the Roaring Fork-Crystal River Valley. Information on the early settlers in the surrounding area, south to Aspen and westward to Rifle is also of importance, as the settlers migrated throughout the area. These settlers and their descendants are an important part of this area’s history. What we would like to know is who they were; what they did; where they settled and migrated; and when they were first here, etc. Respect to family privacy is first and foremost. Just The Facts! More information about this free community event at the Carbondale Branch Library, call 970-963-2889.
