Local resident and avid philanthropist, Jim Calaway has recently committed to leave a legacy gift to the Carbondale Branch of the Garfield County Libraries. This magnanimous gesture will support library services to the local population.
“Jim Calaway has always been generous to the library, from sponsoring our well-loved community room, to arranging for the wonderful Surls sculpture,” said Mollie Roache, Branch Manager in Carbondale. “We are so grateful to have him in our community.”
Calaway was awarded the Garfield County Humanitarian Service Awards “Visionary Award” in April of this year for his many contributions to the community. He has been a long-time supporter of the Garfield County Libraries, including the sponsorship of the community meeting room in the Carbondale Branch Library’s new facility.
“The library is such an important part of our community, and I want to help it,” said Calaway.
With this new donation, Calaway encourages other community members to join him in planned giving to the libraries.
“In talking with Jim Calaway, it was evident that he believes giving should be fun. He has the most fun when all members of the community can rally together to support important causes,” said Roache. “He hopes this legacy gift will not stand alone, but become a catalyst for more donations and gifts to the Garfield County Libraries.”
The Garfield County Libraries have six libraries throughout the county, and serve over 650,000 visitors a year. The Libraries’ mission is to connect the community to a world of possibilities. To this end, the libraries not only lend nearly 700,000 items a year, but also host events such as Storytime, Summer Reading, author talks, concerts, classes, and maker activities throughout the year.
If you are interested in leaving a legacy gift to any of the six libraries or the Library Foundation in general, please contact Executive Director Jesse Henning at 970-625-4270 or foundation@gcpld.org.
