The Garfield County Public Library District is governed by a board of seven trustees appointed by the Board of County Commissioners of Garfield County. Efforts are made to have at least one trustee from each of the communities served by a Garfield County Branch Library.
Board meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month. Meeting location changes monthly; check our board meeting schedule to see where the next meeting will be held. Regular board meetings begin at 2:00 pm and are free and open to the public.

Position Open: Seeking Candidates for the Board of Trustees
The Garfield County Libraries Board of Trustees is seeking candidates to fill an existing term ending on December 31, 2025 and represent the Rifle area. The appointee would then be eligible to volunteer to serve two additional five-year terms.
The seven-member Board of Trustees is the governing body for Garfield County Public Library District, a public library district serving Garfield County. Appointees to the Board of Trustees are chosen from residents within Garfield County. The existing Board of Trustees recommends new members to the Board of County Commissioners for appointment.
The Board sets policies, adopts the annual budget, supervises the work of the Executive Director, and determines the general strategic direction of the Library District. The Board is established under the laws of the State of Colorado. Trustees represent the Library District to the community and advocate for the Library District at the local and state levels.
Applicants must reside in Garfield County. Trustees are expected to support the Library District’s mission, vision, and values through the following actions: Ensuring financial stability, investing in staff development, providing service advocacy, and promoting Library District innovation. Trustees serve as volunteers without compensation. Regular meetings are on the first Thursday of each month.

Please also include any professional experience, volunteer work, or memberships that you believe would enhance your effectiveness as a Trustee.
